Working Day Tips & Tricks — prioritising

Following on directly from the last ‘chunk it down’ blog post, the very next thing I do (or sometimes at the same time) is to prioritise the chunks. I’ll use pen and paper, Trello, whatever tool(s) works for you. The main thing is to have it clear in your head what is most important, what has to happen in what order and then slot those in around your workload and schedule.

If something can wait without impacting on whatever it is you’re doing, park it. You can always re-prioritise as things shift. That’s the beauty of the agile way of working (note the buzz word, it’s still the on-trend thing to do, be and work agile!). Prioritise what’s critical, crucial, important, must-have, nice-to-have, can wait in that, or a very similar, order.

And be open to shuffling things around. Things change, especially on longer pieces of work or projects. Flexibility is just as important to me as prioritising right, being adaptable and keeping up with the needs, circumstances, events, whatever it is that impacts on you, your schedule and your project or piece of work.
